Part of Disney’s Marvel superhero series, Guardians of the Galaxy hit out screens in 2014. This cheeky cosmic adventure features comedy genius Chris Pratt. A dark film adaption of the bestselling novel by Irvine Welsh. Based in Scotland, Trainspotting tells the story of a group of friends living life with a heroine addict. Directed by Danny Boyle this movie soundtrack exemplifies 90’s wasteful cool in the most perfect way. Made famous with the Iggy Pop Song Lust for Life and Sleeper’s Atomic. Pulp Fiction
This quintessential 90’s crime film where a 70’s disco icon dances the twist in a 50’s themed burger join. With 60’s surf-rock and 70’s soul and disco this soundtrack cements this film as one of the best from the 90’s generation.
Bend It Like Beckham
Football film with a twist. Set in the early noughties in west London, Jesminder is a young girl who has dreams of following in the footsteps of her Idol, Man United superstar David Beckham. However her parents forbid her to play football as its for ‘boys’ and instead raise her to be a traditional Indian housewife. The film unfolds with Jess joining the Hounslow Harriers ladies team, meeting new friends and living her dream against her parents wishes. The soundtrack highlights the best of British with tracks from Texas and Blondie as well as some of the best Punjabi hits.
Tarzan
The classic story of a lost boys adopted by the creatures of the Jungle, Disney’s take on Tarzan in 1999was supported by an immense soundtrack written by Phil Collins. The soundtrack peaked at Billboard number 5 – putting Phil Collins back in the public eye. As well as songs such as You’ll Be In My Heart and Strangers Like Me, Phil Collins also wrote a more Disney-eque song like Trashin’ The Camp. It has been one of Disney’s best selling movie soundtracks.
