You must have mixed things up. Lorne Black didn't play the guitar in the band, he played the bass. He certainly played from the bottom of his heart and was a good bass player and apart from that the optical high light of the band - and he would still be today - but GW didn't really appreciate the potential that he had and that he showed in some tracks (maybe that's why he quit??) and of course one can hardly say that he influenced GW's music style much. That was Mark Kendall's (lead guitarist), Jack Russell's and Michael Lardie's job. I nonetheless regretted it much - and still do - that Lorne left the band so early, the more so as it seems that he hasn't found a fairly successful band to play in again or has he? - ronja Fri, 14 Aug 2009 08:40:22 +0100 http://www.callitrocknroll.com/index.php/home/3/10#comment-39 I'm almost sure that most of these people claiming they are "GreatWhite" fans have got some sort of hearing problem, in that ever since Lorne Black dropped out of the band, the band has never, in my opinion been the same. Lorne added that special sound that no one else has ever, and most likely will ever, be able to give to the band again. Great White was GREAT back in the 80's when Lorne Black was on stage contributing to the band, his unique sound that can only be given by someone who has it within to give. Yes Jack has, and is the voice of the band, but the music behind that voice is really where it's at! Ever since Lorne left, I have yet to hear anything from the band that is even worth listening to, all the way through, let alone a second time. I have yet to hear anything remotely close to the sound that Lorne contributed when he played for the band. Back in the 80's they were really at the peak of their greatness they were hot! The hottest they have ever been, and will probably ever be. They were HOT because Lorne Black was with them pouring out his heart and soul into every strum of his guitar. They lost something when they lost Lorne. The band has been suffering ever since, their music lacks that ROCK ME sound it used to have when Lorne played for them. When Lorne left, the band lost the "Great" In "Great White". Nobody will ever measure up to Lorne. He has a talent like no other,a unique playing ability that is untouchable because he has a uniqueness about him. He has a remarkable ability to dig deep down into his soul and pull out the love of his life ...Music. You can hear and feel that love which pours out of him through his finger tips. This is not something that is found, like you find a penny in the street, it can not be recreated through someone else, he can not be cloned. I feel Jack has known that something has been missing from the band this whole time, and he has been trying to find a replacement for it, but I don't think he's willing to admit that what is missing is not something but rather someone, and that someone is Lorne Black. Lorne was and still is a great guitarist. The band can put another in Lorne's place but the band will never be able to replace the music that only Lorne possesses, because Lorne created it from within himself. The unique ability he has to be able to pour out nothing less then pure, untouched true music that comes from deep within the heart of a true music lover is what he gave to the band and his fans at all times. He threw his heart and soul out to everyone everytime he played. He gave everything he had when he played, he put the Great in "Great White" and when he left he took it with him.and that my friends is something that can not be replaced, no matter how hard they try. Last night, July 18th, they did a show in my hometown, and I regretfully have to say that I was very disappointed in the show. The acoustics were all off, we could barely hear the singer (Who was not the lead, where was Jack Russell!!!) and the entertainment factor was NOT there. I was excited to see "Great White" but it didn't even sound like them. Thanks, Great White, for all your years entertaining, but I'm not ever going to pay to see you again. Great White never fails to deliver the purest of rock n roll! I have the Euro release..1 to open and listen to and 1 to leave sealed like every other Great White cd I have..The engineering and the mix is awesome...from the vocals (obviously) to the lead guitar to the bass line to the percussion..every note has its place and has been perfectly played and placed!!
